The 2008 STC Puget Sound Chapter Souther and White Scholarship Program
The Puget Sound Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication offers two scholarships yearly, each in the amount of $1,500.00, to help the recipients further their education in the field of technical communication.
Application deadline has been extended to April 30, 2008.
Because of the unavailability of our STC Web site earlier this year, we are extending the deadline for submitting Scholarship applications. You now have until April 30th (postmarked) 2008 to get the application and accompanying forms submitted to the committee. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact scholarship@stc-psc.org.
Brief background
In December 1986, the Puget Sound Chapter chose to honor two Society Fellows who made significant contributions to STC (at both the chapter and the society levels) and to the technical communication community. Among their many accomplishments, James W. Souther and Myron L. White were instrumental in establishing the Puget Sound Chapter. They were co-general managers of the 31st international conference (ITCC), and they established undergraduate and graduate programs in Scientific and Technical Communication at the University of Washington. Together, they devoted over 79 years to the education of thousands of technical communicators. In their honor, the chapter named its primary scholarship after them. Therefore, every year the Puget Sound Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication awards the Souther and White Scholarship to a deserving student.
Additionally, in the recent past, the chapter itself sets aside an amount to cover a scholarship. This is our way of showing ongoing support, interest, and encouragement for promising future technical communicators.
