  • Description: 

    I am converting my full-time job to a job-share, and I’m looking for a wonderful editor with lead and/or manager experience to be my job-share partner and work 3 days per week. The job is within the curriculum/training department of a local telecom company. Compensation includes benefits. Because the job-share is not yet officially approved, I can’t share the name of the company here, but will provide more information on request. The job entails: Editorial leadership, project/vendor management, editing (primarily copyediting), and desktop publishing. More specifically, the job-share partners will need to work seamlessly together to accomplish the following: Provide leadership and mentoring to editors/desktop publishers; Evaluate and make hiring recommendations for prospective staff, contract, or intern editors/desktop publishers; Lead team meetings and one-on-one meetings with editors/desktop publishers; Handle intake of editing/desktop publishing (EDTP) requests from curriculum writers; measure project needs against staff availability; communicate support/scheduling or alternative options to curriculum writers; Maintain project calendar and send confirmation/reminder e-mails to internal customers; Participate in continual improvement of curriculum publication and update process; Edit (mostly copyediting, but some content editing) and desktop publish materials submitted by the curriculum development team; Produce easy-to-read, understandable curriculum documents, so that documents appear professional, text is simple and clear, text conforms to internal style guide, and text is correct in terms of grammar, punctuation, and spelling; Train and support curriculum writers to use and optimize editing and desktop publishing tools, by supplying training, coaching, and job aids; Create, maintain, and continually improve templates (including Structured FrameMaker “element definition documents”).
  • Requirements: 

    4+ years experience editing, formatting, and publishing a wide range of documents; 2+ years in a lead or manager capacity; Excellent communication and teamwork skills; Experience leading a team of designers/editors/publishers; Ability to communicate effectively with offsite team members; Experience in a strategic role within a publishing function; Proficient in the use of MS Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and FrameMaker; Ability to quickly learn new software tools; Comfortable working with Web-based content; Experience creating style guidelines and templates; Experience juggling multiple projects; Desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. The following are not required, but are a plus: Proficient in the use of structured FrameMaker; Experience with curriculum development or instructional design; Experience with publishing materials on the Web.
