The Competition / Peer Review
Recognition • Learning • Networking
The application deadline has been extended to 5:00pm, Friday, November 14, 2008.
The Competition / Peer Review is your chance to have your work reviewed by your peers in a safe and productive manner. This year we are calling it the Peer Review to emphasize a collegial evaluation based only on standards; not against the work of other participants. Judged against international standards, you have the opportunity to gain formal recognition through awards and receive valuable written feedback on your work. Projects from all organization sizes and all levels of experience are welcome.
The Peer Review offers three main categories: Online Communication, Printed Publications, and Technical Art.
Your work will be reviewed by two or more judges who are volunteers from the technical communication community – in the Seattle area and internationally. The Review is conducted according to standards developed by the Society for Technical Communication.
Applications for the 2008 Puget Sound Chapter Peer Review are now being accepted. The Peer Review application package:
• MS Word • Adobe PDF
Measured against international standards
You are not in competition with projects from other organizations.
The size of your organization or development team is unimportant. The amount of resources you have available to do your project is less important than your application of solid communication skills.
Affordable and valuable for all
Many organizations have found the Peer Review to be an excellent source of inexpensive feedback about online Help, tutorials, web sites, reference books, brochures, and posters.
Your application fee can be as low as $50 if you are a member of the Puget Sound Chapter of STC and you offer to help out during the judging process.
Reward and recognition for all contributors to the work
There is no limit on the number of awards given out in any given year. Everyone has a great chance to be a recipient of a Distinguished, Excellence, or Merit award.
Award-recipients are invited to participate in our Peer Review Showcase event in January.
The Distinguished submissions may enter their work in the International STC judging.
Get recognition for your whole team. There is no limit on the number of people who can be associated with a submission and receive awards.
Consider being a Judge — Give back to your profession
Get a first-hand look at great projects by being a judge. You can learn a lot by seeing what the best in your field are doing. And you are giving back to the profession while you learn.
