Workshop: Embedded Indexing
Document Actions
Embedding codes to create indexes on the fly has been around for a long time. But in the last few years, new emphasis has been put on using this technique, especially with the surge in XML tagging. Come find out what the buzz is about with Jan Wright, who has been a specialist in embedded indexing for nearly 15 years.
We will cover what embedding is, how it works in products such as Word, Frame, PageMaker, InDesign, and RoboHelp, and what kinds of issues you face with these kinds of projects. We'll be discussing why publishers are asking for coding, how to handle electronic files, and what a typical process looks like for completing a project.
The focus of the workshop will be on learning how to organize and handle these types of rojects, and not devoted to any specific software product. Short demos illustrating major software packages will highlight key issues and techniques, and give you a feel for each product's environment.
