Monthly Chapter Meetings
The centerpiece of our chapter activities is our monthly meeting series held throughout the year except summer months. These evening meetings combine professional development content with valuable networking opportunities, typically featuring industry expert presentations followed by discussion and informal socializing.
Meetings are held at accessible locations throughout the Puget Sound region, with hybrid attendance options allowing both in-person and virtual participation. This flexibility ensures that members across our geographic area can engage with chapter programming regardless of commute considerations or work schedules.
Each meeting includes dedicated networking time before the formal program begins. These pre-meeting sessions have become popular opportunities for members to reconnect with colleagues, welcome newcomers, and have informal conversations about current projects and industry trends.
Presentation topics cover the full spectrum of technical communication including emerging technologies, management and leadership skills, specific tools and methodologies, industry trends, and case studies from real-world documentation projects. We carefully curate topics based on member surveys and current industry relevance.

Workshop and Training Programs
Our hands-on workshops provide intensive learning experiences on specific technical communication topics. These extended sessions, typically lasting half or full days, combine instruction with practical exercises that allow participants to develop new skills and create work samples they can use professionally.
Recent workshops have covered topics such as content strategy development, structured authoring with XML, API documentation best practices, information architecture fundamentals, visual communication and infographics, accessibility in technical documentation, and content management system implementation.
Workshops are led by experienced practitioners and subject matter experts who bring real-world perspective to their instruction. Many workshop leaders are chapter members who volunteer their time and expertise to support colleague development.
We limit workshop attendance to ensure personalized attention and hands-on practice opportunities. Members receive priority registration, and workshops often include take-home materials such as templates, resource lists, and reference guides.

Special Events and Programs
Throughout the year, we host special events that complement our regular meeting schedule. These include panel discussions featuring technical communication leaders from various industries, career fairs connecting job seekers with hiring organizations, write-a-thons where members collaborate on documentation projects, and social events that emphasize community building.
Our annual recognition event celebrates member achievements and contributions to the chapter and profession. This gathering acknowledges outstanding technical communication work, recognizes volunteers who support chapter operations, and provides festive year-end networking.
We occasionally partner with other professional organizations to co-host events that bridge technical communication with related fields such as user experience design, content strategy, software development, and information management. These cross-disciplinary programs expand perspectives and create networking opportunities beyond the technical communication community.

Speaker Series and Industry Experts
Our speaker programs bring nationally recognized experts and innovative local practitioners to share insights with chapter members. We've hosted authors of definitive technical communication texts, leaders from major technology companies, academic researchers advancing the field, and practitioners pushing boundaries in emerging areas.
Speaker topics range from fundamental skills every technical writer needs to specialized subjects like medical device documentation, software localization, video documentation techniques, and artificial intelligence applications in technical communication.
We record most presentations for members who cannot attend live sessions, building a library of professional development content accessible to all members. This recorded content provides ongoing value and allows members to revisit complex topics for deeper understanding.

Networking Opportunities
Beyond our formal programs, we create numerous opportunities for informal networking and community building. Our newcomer orientations help first-time attendees connect with experienced members and learn about chapter resources and opportunities.
Special interest groups meet between chapter meetings for focused discussions on specific topics, tools, or industries. These smaller gatherings enable deeper exploration of niche interests and facilitate relationship building among professionals with common specializations.
We organize periodic social events including happy hours, coffee meetups, and activity-based gatherings that emphasize fun and relationship building. These informal occasions help members get to know colleagues beyond professional contexts and strengthen our sense of community.
#
Virtual and Hybrid Participation
Recognizing that our members have diverse schedules, locations, and participation preferences, we offer virtual attendance options for most chapter events. Our hybrid meeting format allows remote participation without sacrificing the networking and community benefits of in-person gathering.
Virtual attendees can ask questions during presentations, participate in discussions, and connect with other members through online chat features. We've invested in quality audiovisual equipment and streaming technology to ensure excellent experience for remote participants.
For members who cannot attend live events due to schedule conflicts, we provide recordings and supplementary materials from most programs. This ensures that all members can benefit from chapter programming regardless of when or how they choose to participate.

Planning Your Event Attendance
Our events calendar is published several months in advance, allowing members to plan their attendance around work and personal commitments. We send regular email updates about upcoming programs, registration deadlines, and new additions to the schedule.
Registration for chapter events is handled through our website with member discounts automatically applied. We typically open registration four to six weeks before each event and close registration a few days prior to finalize logistics and materials.
For popular workshops and special events with limited capacity, we encourage early registration to secure your spot. Wait lists are maintained for sold-out events, and we often add additional sessions for programs with high demand.

Continuing Education and Professional Development Units
Many of our educational programs qualify for continuing education credits or professional development units required by various certification programs and employers. We provide attendance documentation upon request for members who need to track professional development for certification maintenance or employer requirements.
Our programs align with learning objectives and competencies defined by professional certification organizations in technical communication and related fields. This ensures that participation in chapter programs contributes to your formal professional credentials alongside the practical skills and knowledge gained.
